MRS. WATTS Elderly woman who lives with her son, Ludie, and his wife, Jessie Mae. Mrs. Watts wants to revisit Bountiful, her childhood home, so she sneaks away to travel there. She is a very humble and sincere woman who enjoys recollecting on her days in Bountiful. LUDIE Mrs. Watt’s son and Jessie Mae’s husband. He is very submissive, “hen-pecked.” He is a hard worker and provides for his mother and wife. He says that he cannot really remember growing up in Bountiful or people from his childhood. JESSIE MAE Married to Ludie. She is a very petty and unhappy woman who treats Mrs. Watts as if she was a child. She never has children. She does not like to think of her past because it depresses her. She complains about money and other materialistic things and would prefer a better lifestyle than the one she has.
