Houston - (p.14)

Houston is a major city in the state of Texas.  Ludie, Jessie Mae, and Mrs. Watts live in the middle of the city of Houston. They live in a crowded apartment and have relocated their lives there from Bountiful.

Shreveport - (p.14)

Shreveport is a city in Louisiana and is home to the Shreveport Captains, an AA team for the San Francisco, Giants. Shreveport’s baseball team plays Houston's baseball team and Ludie would like to go to this game. He feels a connection with baseball because, as a child when he played in Bountiful he said he would have rather played than to have eaten.

Galveston - (p.15)

Galveston is a city that is close to Harrison and is where Jessie Mae believes the majority of Houston goes to drink and gamble. Galveston is a place that seems to have a bad reputation in the play; they talk about it like all the sins in the state of Texas are committed there. Galveston is a real city in Texas however; the bad reputation that follows it in this play is unknown in real life.

Hollywood - (p.28)

Hollywood, California is the place that Jessie Mae wants to go to for her vacation.  She expresses to Mrs. Watts that she wants to visit Hollywood as bad as Mrs. Watts wants to go back to Bountiful.

Old Gulf - (p.32)

Old Gulf is where Thelma, (the pretty blond woman that Mrs. Watts meets in the bus station), is going to live with her parents for a while until her husband returns from the military.  Old Gulf is on the Gulf Coast of Texas.

Harrison - (p.32)

Harrison is not a real town in Texas but in the play it is where Thelma and Mrs. Watts change buses and go their separate ways. Harrison and Cotton are the only places Mrs. Watts can get a ticket to that is near Bountiful because there are no buses that go directly to Bountiful.  Bountiful is in-between Harrison and Cotton.

Leighton - (p.32)

Leighton, Texas is the place where the man in front of Mrs. Watts at the bus station, is buying a ticket to visit.  Leighton is not a real place in Texas; it was made up purely for this play.

Cotton - (p.33)

Cotton is Mrs. Watts’ other option to get to Bountiful besides Harrison.  She cannot take a bus straight to Bountiful; she either has to go to Harrison or Cotton.  Cotton is not a real city in Texas.

Brazos River - (p.53)

Brazos River is right by Mrs. Watts old house in Bountiful.  The sheriff remembers Mrs. Watts’ house because it is so old and worn down and before long it is believed that it will fall into the river.

Bountiful - (p.55)

Bountiful is the place where Ludie and Mrs. Watts grew up.  Bountiful is the ultimate destination for Mrs. Watts; she always talks of getting back to Bountiful before she dies. All of her happy memories lie in Bountiful and she thinks that Ludie might feel the same way.  She eventually realizes that Ludie’s memories of Bountiful are the same as hers, but he has a job in Houston that he cannot afford to lose so they are not able to live in Bountiful.  Bountiful is not a real place in Texas, although it serves a major landmark for the play.
