Research

I am currently a graduate student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I am part of the CS Lab and am working on my master's thesis under Dr. Gary Cheng.

My thesis is based on a computational method for simulating rarefied (high Knudsen number) gas flows using a particle-based simulation aproach called DSMC. It falls under a broad spectrum of statistical schemes called Monte Carlo methods.

I work with a parallel code (PDSC) that was originally developed by Dr. J.S. Wu and his team at the MuST Labs in NCTU, Taiwan. My work was started in close collaboration with Yu Young Lian, a visiting graduate student from the same university. It has so far involved the validation of the PDSC code for hypersonic flows that mimic re-entry conditions. I am now looking at adapting the code to simulate similar flow conditions encountered in industrial processes like physical vapor deposition.
